LILY OF THE VALLEY:
The fragrant lily-of-the-valley signifies sweetness, humility, and motherhood.
It is a highly poisonous woodland flowering plant with heavenly scented,cascading , bell-shaped white flowers. It is native throughout the cool temperate Northern Hemisphere in Asia and Europe.( It grows wild in Italy and it is a protected flower there)
The lily of the valley was the national flower of Yugoslavia, it also became the national flower of Finland in 1967.
In 1956, the French firm Dior produced a fragrance simulating lily of the valley, which was Christian Dior's favorite flower. Diorissimo was designed by Edmond Roudnitska. Although it has since been reformulated, it is considered a classic.
Lily of the valley has been used in weddings quite often and can be very expensive, it is often referred to as the Royal Bloom.
The Lily of the valley was featured in the bridal bouquet at the wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton.
It was also chosen by Princess Grace of Monaco for her bridal bouquet.
It was also featured in Meghan Markle’s bouquet which included gorgeous blooms hand picked by Prince Harry. This stunning bouquet al;so included Forget Me Nots, Princess Diana’s favorite flower.
HAWTHORN:
The other May flower is the hawthorn .
The hawthorn flower is unique. It’s a small white or pink flower that is typically seen blooming on a plant or bush instead of in a bouquet. However, its red berries are sometimes used as fillers in bouquets to add color and texture. It represents hope and supreme happiness.
