Greening up the work space.
Adding live plants to the office space is not only a site for sore eyes but also beneficial for the air quality of the work space and to the mood of the employees working there.
I am lucky enough to spend all my work week surrounded by gorgeous blooms and lush greens, but just because you don't work in a flower shop doesn't mean that you need to be stuck within four bleak cement walls either. Your work space should be lively and relaxing to promote healthy work habits , your desk area should be enticing not dreadful and I really think in general personalizing your work space and greening it up makes it cozier and more personal.
Obviously a lot of times work spaces don't provide the best light to grow plants but here are a few that I am obsessing over because they are not only gorgeous but pretty much indestructible.
1- ZZ Plant:
What makes the ZZ plant so gorgeous and unique is its natural shine that adds a bright and lush glow to any room. It handles low light great and can survive long periods of neglect without loosing its beauty. It also requires very little water making this a California Perfect plant :o)
Fertilizer is not required although I fertilize mine once a year in the Spring.
2 - Fiddle Leaf Fig
Fiddle Leaf Figs are available in many sizes however they are a true show stopper used as floor plants in office corners or in the lobby.
Unlike the ZZ plant the LOVE LIGHT, but do not need direct sun at all.
They like heavy but infrequent watering, I give mine a good soaking once every two weeks, overwatering can be deadly to a fiddle leaf fig so do not water it unless the soil is dry.
Their lush large leaves can collect quite a bit of dust so they require some cleaning. Fertilizer can be used monthly.
3 - The Snake Plant ( Sansevieria)
Snake Plants or Mother In law Tongues are know for their unique almost architectural appearance as well as their durability. they require very little water and prefer a well draining soil. While they like bright diffused light to maintain their bluish hue they can tolerate very low lights as well making them very well suited for office spaces as well as container seasonal gardens. I often use them in succulent gardens for their textural element but I also like them by themselves because of their rigid leaves I feel they add quite a modern touch to a room.
