Spring it to me!
New Design Saturday!
A couple of weeks before the craziness we call Valentine's Day I had found this white ceramic goblet and I have been eyeballing it ever since, waiting for a calm moment to create a new spring inspired design with it.
I wasn't quite sure in which directions to take it but I did know I wanted to create a design with an organic flow to it, a sense of movement so to speak and of course something pink and girlie.
I prepared my vessel using a tape grid that allows me to have control of where my stems fall. I selected some of my greens to create the basic shape of the design, right away I oped for some scented geraniums because they are naturally garden like and full of movement, not to mention they smell so refreshing. I combined these with some veronicas to accentuate the highest and lowest point of the design then I slowly moved my way toward the center of the creation.
For this I went really springy. I put one white hydrangea cut really low into the vase to work almost as a base for my main flowers. I chose locally grown Ranunculus, Dutch Imported Tulips, light pink Lisianthus,. I incorporated a touch of purple to add a bit of an extra dimension to the design using Deep Purple Roses, my new favorite variety of roses.
I covered the remaining bulky part of the hydrangea with a deep toned cymbidium orchid and as my show stopper I finished the design worth some bi-color Azaleas. These gifted the design so much movement and depth.
